The college originated in 1988 as
the language-training center of YOCU, and has never
wavered from its mission of "service to the overseas
Chinese community". Focusing on overseas Chinese
and their new generation to establish the connection
to their heritage by learning Chinese language, Chinese
culture and history, the college has already provided
various teaching and training programs for thousands
of overseas Chinese and foreign students from more
than 30 countries in many parts of the world .The
College is proud of its role in serving to popularize
Chinese language and enhancing Chinese culture.

| To meet perceived academic
demands, the college offers short-term and long-term
Chinese language training courses for duration of 2-12
weeks. Entering scholars are given a Chinese language
proficiency test used to determine their language |

capabilities after which the students are assigned
an appropriate language class level. The language
courses are divided into elementary, intermediate
and advanced sections and allowance is made for personal
tutoring if requested. The college provides HSK courses
for those seeking Chinese university degrees, and
can refer students to some of the more prestigious
Chinese universities after they have completed necessary
study and passed required exams.
Teaching Chinese language and spreading
Chinese Culture are regarded as among the college's
key responsibilities. Besides teaching Chinese language,
the college offers electives in Chinese Opera (Beijing
Opera), Chinese painting and calligraphy, Wushu, Chinese
songs, Chinese history, and Chinese customs, and conducts
field trips to historical and cultural places of interest
designed to help students better understand Chinese
culture, society, and language. Twice a year, in summer
and winter, the college organizes "Chinese Language
& Culture appreciation camp" for the benefit
of overseas elementary and middle school students
in an effort to combine learning with entertainment.
